Our 2016 Contest Judge Revealed
Karen Sucharski is an award-winning journalist, poet and artist. Currently residing in Ajo, AZ, she makes her living as a ceramic artist while teaching poetry and art on the side. A former judge for K-12 national writing competitions and Poetry Out Loud, Karen was Poetry Slammistress for Colorado Springs, CO, and was ranked in the top 10 of the Southwest Region for performance poets. She has coached several high school poetry slam teams to win local and regional awards under her guidance. Pikes Peak Performance Poet of the year in 2007, Sucharski was nominated for Pikes Peak Poet Laureate for three years by her students, peers, and the teachers she worked with and was also the Pikes Peak inaugural poet for President Obama. Over 48 of her poems have been traditionally published as well as hundreds of articles. Her poems have been featured in more than a dozen anthologies. She has four self-published chapbooks of poetry and a professionally produced, spoken word CD. Karen has edited two novels, a memoir, and is now editing a young adult fiction novel.
